Remembering 9/11
Twenty years ago on this very same day, the United States of America was shaken to its very core. Pain. Shock. Suffering. Death. It was a wave of unspeakable emotions that traveled through the very soul of each and every American that witnessed the tragedy of 9/11. Words can not possibly describe the aftermath of a day that will forever live in infamy. Families, careers, and memories were torn apart because of a horrific attack against the free world. It was supposed to be another of the 52 Tuesdays of the year but it became the day in which 2,996 innocent people lost their lives.
The World Trade Centers stood tall and proud as ambassadors of the American dream; a reality that many who worked in the twin towers believed in. Normally buildings do not signify much besides an enterprise, but the twin towers were a symbol of success. The tower's tall glimmering stature gave hope of a better and a more prosperous life to anyone that viewed its presence. New York, a city of opportunity, along with the rest of the country had its heart shattered as it saw the towers of prosperity crumble. The America as we knew it was changed for a version many would have never expected. What was once an illuminating city, New York quickly became the epicenter of America’s pain.
The Towers were not just architectural masterpieces; they were a home to thousands of daily workers, many of whom never got to say goodbye to their families. Parents never got to see their children grow up, kids never got to meet their parents, and the dream of constructing a future disappeared in seconds. Life was different. And hope seemed a feeling of the distant past as Americans viewed destruction happening right in front of their very eyes. First responders knew of the possibility of never coming out of the towers, yet they ran at full speed into the burning buildings. The heroes of 9/11 are the brave first responders who fulfilled their duty to protect the public. Nothing can never be said nor done to fill the void that 9/11 has left. The feelings of pain will never go away with time, the story of 9/11 is forever imprinted in the hearts of all Americans. The world will never be the same, but we have to continue persevering. Throughout history, Americans have rallied together in support of one another; today we must do the same and honor the lives lost on 9/11. Let us not wait for another tragedy to happen before we can once again unite; those who lost their lives on 9/11 believed in the American dream, so let us remember them by honoring their wishes.
Hold your loved ones close. Live a life filled with happiness. And always remember the lives we lost.
