Abortion again..

OPINION PIECE:

Roe v. Wade

What more is there to say? Nothing. Roe v. Wade has protected women across this country for nearly half a century, but it has been overturned. What does this action say about the United States?

Everything. It stands for what we have become as a nation: partisan.

We used to be a nation that showed strength as a ruler of the world. We used to protect the rights of all Americans and beyond. We believed in freedom. That six letter word single handedly stood for the sacrifice, hardships, and valiant effort of our forefathers. Each of the very members of the Continental Congress and army fought proudly for the idea of a nation with freedom. And having unquestioned freedom is what made our country so great. My parents, their grandparents, and even I grew up with the idea of the United States being the greatest nation in the world. We all believed it and naively I still do. But how can I justify the United States being the greatest country in the world, when the very thing it sought to protect has now been stripped away, freedom

We were admired for how we put forth freedom over religion. We were admired for the valiant efforts of our politicians that work for the people, who unequivocally give them their positions of power. The country that once worked for the greater good of the people of this nation, despite bleeding blue or red, has turned into an idea of the past. Freedom, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness used to be what we all lived for, but now even the very foundations of this country have even been forgotten.

It has shamefully gone to pieces.

Just ask yourselves and view the hypocrisy of this decision. The United States has branded itself as a fighter for freedom and promoter of justice. Yet, the freedom of women has been taken away. How can we women be free if the government does not protect the rights of its citizens?

We protect the rights of the bearing arms. We protect the rights of choosing to inoculate ourselves. But, women can not choose what to do with their bodies?

The protection that our courts have given us to be free in this nation and to truly live by the meanings of this country can not solely apply to certain topics (guns, vaccines etc.). Freedom is for everyone, and THIS principle is what needs to be protected.

Abortion, whether or not you believe in it, is your choice to decide. Giving the right to choose and live with this freedom, does not that abortion is the only option. But, being able to CHOOSE is what I am fighting for.

You can be religious. You can be an atheist. You can be on either political spectrum, and what I am asking you is not to choose between blue or red. I am simply asking to protect freedom; I am sure all of us can agree on this principle.

Freedom is the only aspect that all  of us as a nation must rally behind despite our political colors.
